From humble beginnings
RMCO is a personal story. In 2004, I moved to the Netherlands for my studies. This is a trip hundreds of wide-eyed Dutch Caribbean students would make. Back home, 8000 kilometres away on the island of Aruba, we didn't have much in the way of advanced degrees. To get ahead in life, you needed to leave your family behind and start over again in the Netherlands. I chose Rotterdam.
Unfortunately, on 1 August 2007, I received the terrible news that my father had suffered a heart attack and died. It was the height of summer, all the commercial flights were fully booked, except for business class seats, which I couldn't afford. Even with help from the embassy it took four whole days before I was able to return home. Sitting there, restless, in my Rotterdam apartment, I tried hard to recall the last time I saw him and the last time we spoke...
This was the moment that I decided that a major career goal of mine would be the ability to always be there for my loved ones. Whenever, wherever, I will be there when I'm needed without having to beg an employer for permission or depend on the charity of others.
This is why I decided to go solo and start my own business and it is why I decided to work remotely, unburdened by the limitations of a physical office.
I have earned this freedom, through hard work, sweat and toil. This freedom, is something I cherish and would love to share with others. So, as this once unlikely venture continues to expand, it is my wish to change the way the world looks at 'work', correct the stereotype of what professionalism is and ultimately, shatter rigid, old-fashioned beliefs of how work should be done.
Results matter. Passion and purpose get us there.
